6W at Ghyll Head

Published by under Uncategorized

Sorry everyone, I haven’t been able to get on the school website for the last 2 nights. Everything went well with the 6F/6W changeover, but the weather is very windy and rainy!! That didn’t stop 6W as one group went climbing and tunnelling at the Cathedral cave while the other 2 groups rowed across the lake. We had an excellent nightline, when everyone helped to complete the challenge and 6W are the best group for showers – so we had time for a hot chocolate before bed. There was a lot of chatting going on in the night and some midnight tidying in one boys room!!!!! We’ve just had breakfast and we’ll be wrapping up warm for the day ahead, there’s just time for some messages:

6F at Ghyll Head

Published by under Uncategorized

Hello Everyone,

Here we are again! We had a really smooth trip up ,watching Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. After eating our packed lunches, we went out on a walk around Ghyll Head with lovely views of Lake Windemere and the snow on the mountain tops. There was a little bit of snow so we could all have a quick snowball fight as well as a bit of scrambling and wading through puddles! After dinner, we went out on the nightline, I must say that 6F finished it in record time, although they did have a bit of help from the moon! Room inspection was a great success with 2 rooms scoring a 4…fantastic for a first night. Its nearly bedtime but I hope I can send some messages:

Disaster! We couldn’t get the fire started last night so we had candles in the fire pit instead! With marshmellows and hot chocolate. We told some scary stories but I think mine was the scariest!!! Everyone had a good nights sleep and we’ve just finished our boiled eggs before packing and going on our last activity. Well done 6D you are learning to listen to instructions, which will help you in school for the rest of the year.

100% record on the zip wire from 6D, we’re so proud of them especially Jebin, Rehmaan,Yousef and Mharia who overcame their fears at the top of the tower. Our other activity was ghyll scrambling, which is rock climbing through waterfalls!!!!!! It was great fun but we all got very wet… it’s a good job that we’ll be drying off in front of the camp fire tonight and eating marshmellows.Everyone is having a good time, slept really well and are keeping their rooms very tidy. 6D have set a wonderful standard for 6W and 6F to follow.

Good News

Published by under Uncategorized

It has been a really good week this week. It started with our Eid Holiday and then the parties on Tuesday, when everyone enjoyed themselves without getting too silly. I had a marvellous report from the Museum of Science and Industry about the wonderful behaviour of Year 4 on their visits. It was lovely to see so many parents at our Parents Evening and the teachers had a lot of good things to tell them. Today, we held our minutes silence for Armistice Day and everyone was very respectful, including Year 1 (and I know how hard it is for them to be quiet for a whole minute!) Well done everyone, I hope I will have some good things to report from Ghyll Head next week with 6D.

Chinese Visitors

Published by under Uncategorized

We really enjoyed the visit from the Headteacher and 5 teachers from Beijing Primary Day School this week. We had a lovely assembly with dancing and flowers and lots of presents for the school. The teachers really enjoyed watching the lessons and they would like for more of their teachers to visit our school and maybe even some of their children. We had a planning meeting and discussed some exciting things to do. One suggestion was to put a webcam in the rabbit house so that their children could watch Rosie and Whizz on the internet. I think that would be popular for Birchfields children too!

FAST (Families And Schools Together) is a programme of activities for parents and children run by parents, governors and school staff with help from Save the Children. Our first evening was Tuesday and it was a fantastic success. I would like to say a big thank you to everyone involved, especially our 39 families, who were all brilliant.

One thing that has made me feel sad this week has been reports of bullying, some children have been really unkind to children in their class and others have been threatening to get their older brothers or cousins involved. This has got to stop. I don’t like to think that any of the lovely children at Birchfields would be mean to others. I am always being complimented by people who work at other schools or members of the public, praising our behaviour. I believe that if you think about how someone else is feeling, you will do the right thing. I hope all of us will make the right choices next week.

I think we are very lucky at Birchfields to have some very committed school governors, who help me manage the school. This week many of them were here until nearly 8 o’clock for FAST on Tuesday and a governors meeting on Thursday. I think sometimes we forget you are volunteers with families to look after, but we really appreciate your contribution to the school:)

It’s National Smile Week this week, so don’t forget to make someone smile this weekend:)

Birchfields’ Got Talent!

Published by under Uncategorized

It’s been a fantastic week this week. We had an amazing final to Birchfields Got Talent which everyone rally enjoyed. A big thank you to all the contestants and to Mr Pickering and Mr Bradley for organising the event. Don’t forget to vote for your favourite on the home page of this website. This afternoon we have our Careers Fair when Year 6 will be able to talk to over 30 adults with different jobs and lets hope it will really inspire them to work hard. It’s been a tough week for Year 6, who have been doing tests, so they really deserve a rest over the holidays! During the holidays, we could all be thinking about which special book character we’re going to dress up as on Friday 4th March – I’ve already decided and a lot of you might guess what sort of character I might be! I wish everyone at Birchfields a very happy holiday!
